Derek Sivers is an author of philosophy and entrepreneurship, known for his surprising quotable insights and pithy succinct writing style. In “book notes,” he provides a tiny summary AND detailed notes for a ton of books that we should all be reading. Here’s the links to massive wisdom!
“BOOK NOTES” Derek Sivers
Sivers also seems to have lazy friends that don’t want to read books. They just want to be “told what to do.” Check this out. It’s an awesome shortcut. JUST TELL ME WHAT TO DO: compressing knowledge into directives.
And the follow up… DO THIS Directives by Derek Sivers
This is one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever read.
Clayton Christensen (Harvard Business School) challenges
readers to redefine success, uncover true purpose, and align
actions with lasting fulfillment in work and life. My favorite
quote: “I’ve concluded that the metric by which God will
assess my life isn’t dollars but the individual people whose
lives I’ve touched.”
Long time readers of TOP READS know that I have an affinity
with stoic philosophy. Here are two tasty morsels that I’ve
snacked on recently.

If you want to absorb the wisdom of fitness coach Dan Go, you can do so on every conceivable social media platform. X, where he posts as @FitFounder to more than 725,000
followers. He’s also got over half a million followers on Instagram. I love his content! Hope you do too.
As of February 15, I’ve gone six months without a drop of alcohol. I didn’t have a “problem” with addiction but now… I do have a problem. I’m addicted to how great I feel.
Motivation to quit drinking from Ben Affleck, Bradley, Cooper, Jordan, Peterson, Brad Pitt, Mike Tyson, and a few others.
PODCASTS
OK…here’s a controversial one. The Free Press has become one of my favorite alternative media outlets. Author Louise Perry explains the issues behind the decline in traditional
marriage and birth rates, and how we went wrong as a society on dating, sex, porn, and marriage; how it is impacting women and men differently; how and if we can get back on track; how to date effectively in 2025; and how a revival of Christian sex ethics might be the answer. Listen to this, but as always, don’t shoot the messenger.
Naval Ravikant is the CEO and co-founder of AngelList. He’s invested in more than 100 companies, including Uber, Twitter, Yammer, and many others. Naval is an incredibly deep thinker who challenges the status quo on so many things. This is an interview you’ll want to listen to, think a bit, and then listen to again.
Quotes to ponder:
“Money, itself, is not the end goal. It’s the freedom and options that money provides which are so enriching.” ~Suze Orman
“Being poor is not having too little, it is wanting more.” ~Seneca
“Investing should be more like watching paint dry or watching grass grow. If you want excitement, take $800 and go to Las Vegas.” ~Paul Samuelson
